It took an extra day of feeding twice a day to really get going. My first loaf turned out nicely. It was not the prettiest loaf but it was tasty! I'll keep practicing to get down how to make it pretty!

The freeze dried sourdough starter performed beautifully! The process was so easy and my first loaf of bread turned out so well! I had tried to make a starter on my own without success, so I knew I needed help. I was so excited to get started when it arrived that I rehydrated the starter right away about 6pm. I began the feedings as directed, making sure my flour was unbleached, the water was filtered to remove chlorine, and the starter grew while in the turned-off oven with the light on (it was surprising how warm was the inside of the oven with just the light on). My starter was probably ready by 6pm on the fourth day, but I wanted to wait until the next morning to start the breadmaking process. I fed the starter one more time so it would be ready in 12 hours. Thankfully I put a large piece of parchment paper in the bottom of the oven to catch any drips, because it would have been a huge mess! The starter was ready, I followed the recipe for sandwich bread, and the loaves turned out beautifully! I put some of the starter into the refrigerator, and I'm looking forward to making the Boule loaf. It's so exciting to have a product work so well with excellent directions and so fulfilling to bake my own sourdough loaf!

My Freeze Dried starter from Five Oaks has been the only starter that i've been able to successfully grow without any difficulty. It has finally given me a start into the sourdough world!!
Baking perfect loaves by day 6/7.

I haven used it once and it lasted longer than in a container. I will be using again soon

I just got my starter and a few other items. I am very pleased with the fast shipping. I have not yet activated my starter as I had to go out of town but I feel pretty confident that I will be successful when I do and will leave a review later on. This had so many great reviews that I had to try it.

It took a little longer to get nice and active enough for bread making but is now making bread.

I'm new to sourdough, but this starter made great levin and I baked on the 5th day. The bread tastes great, and I will work on the chewiness! I'm glad I bought this and believe it helped a great deal. The 2nd package is a gift to a sister who bakes sourdough and I know she'll love it.

The instructions were good, especially the hint about putting it in the oven with the light on. After a week I was able to make the (included) recipe for sandwich loaves. They turned out great! I gifted half a loaf to a friend, who now expects his share weekly :-)

Underwhelming activity. I thought the temperature might have killed it on day 5, so I started over. It’s still barely showing activity. I plan to bake with it today, to see results.

Over the years I have tried various starters, including other dried starters. this one was the easiest to use and created a robust starter.
